What do you do with a bird house?
I have a beautiful cedar bird house that my brother in law gave to me in May for my birthday. I now have a new family of sparrow in it!!! When they have all left the nest, what can I do to ensure that a new family will move in?? Do I clean it out? Or leave it alone? Thank you for your replies!
Clean out the bird house. There could be feather mites and other parasites in the box. Do not worry about the parasites infecting you. These only affect feathered creatures. I have been following nest boxes for years professionally and have never had a problem with the feather parasites.
You may not get any more nests this year, but some birds may use the box as a winter roost. If this happens be sure to clean out the box again next spring.
Isn't if fun to follow nesting birds?
