How can i get my birds to play with their toys?
My two budgies have a few toys in their cage. They won't even LOOK at them!!! I even move them to different spots in the cage fairly often. What can I do to make them like their toys???
Luci loves mirrors! I dunno he'd probably like shiny things too....
Your budgies may either be scared of the toys or not know what to do with them. Teach them what the toys are for. For example, place a budgie on your finger and place it on its ladder to climb up. If a toy has a bell on it, ring the bell with your finger. The budgie may be interested in the noise and start pecking at the bell. Budgies all have different likes and dislikes when it comes to toys. You can't make them like a toy, but you can try out different toys and see what they like. Some budgies like chewing on something, and will tug at their preen toy (bird pacifier). Male budgies love looking at themselves in the mirror.
Also, some budgies get shy when a person is around and you never see them playing with their toys. They may play with their toys and stop playing when they hear you coming. This is more likely to happen if your budgies are new and aren't comfortable with you. Playing with your budgies and their toys can help solve that problem as you build a bond together. Good luck!
