When decorating a bedroom, should you choose your wall color or your bedding first?
I am building a house, and I am trying to choose my wall colors. I was wondering if it is best to pick the wall color or the bedding first for the master bedroom? Any suggestions, please and thank you!
When choosing paint color for a room, it's always wise to choose an object (usually the focus of the room - bedding in a bedroom, perhaps a painting in the living room, etc.) and only then should you choose the paint color. Here's why:
If you paint your wall first without knowing what will be in the room, I can guarantee that you'll have a really hard time finding the object of focus that matches your paint. It's VERY hard to match bedding to paint. A much better idea is to buy your bedding then bring one of the pillow shams or the bedding itself to a paint store that will match the color you like best in the bedding to paint. It's done by computer, takes only a few seconds and your paint is guaranteed to match your bedding.
So, get your primer on the wall and then go shopping 
There are also other things to consider when painting a room. In fact, there is actually pscyhology behind colors - colors do different things to our state of mind. For instance, did you know that babies cry much more often in a room painted yellow? That's because yellow, though most people consider it to be warm and comforting, really isn't. In fact, it raises our anxiety rate so it's not a good idea to put yellow in a bedroom. Red stimulates appetite - it's better to put reds in a dining room. Greens, pinks and soft blues help us relax. That's why you'll often find these colors in hospital rooms and never any yellow in psychiatric hospitals.
Also, if the windows in your room face south, you'll want to use cooler colors, otherwise, you'll feel suffocated and hot. Likewise, if your room faces north, you'll want to opt for warmer colors, otherwise you'll often feel chilled in the room.
