should i bring my finch to the vet to have a band put onto its foot?
my new baby finch that has just hatched is around 2 weeks old. I decided to put on a leg band. I'm scared to do it at home because i'm scared that i might break its foot while putting it on. So should i bring it to the vet? Also, should i bring it to the pet shop?
The only bands you should be putting on at this age are closed bands. Do you have closed finch leg bands? If you do - they would have provided instructions on how to do it with your order.
It is definitely not easy, and you should at least have help the first few times until you get the hang of it.
A vet might be able to help you - but it would much less time consuming, stressful, and inexpensive to just do it at home with the help of someone else.
Edit -- Wacky, closed leg bands are applied (depending on species) anywhere between 7-12 days of age. I apply my gouldian closed leg bands at about 11 days old. So.. 2-3 days is entirely inaccurate.
