My quail aren't pecking out of the egg shell?
I have them in a hatcher and only about half of them can push out of the shell. They peck a circle around the top of the shell and then they can't push out of the shell. Some of them can't even peck the whole circle out. I cracked the shell off one and it was okay for the first day and then it died. These are bobwhite quail. I'm using a Little giant with a turner and a fan 99degrees and 60% humidity. And switching them to a hovabator still air 97degrees and 70% humidity to hatch in.
Your problem seems to be not enough humidity,try a light spray of Warm water over the eggs in a morning and early evening.
Your humidity is too low,always when eggs are due to hatch do the above.
If you are attempting to remove shells yourself to assist the young in hatching be extremly careful that you do not break the egg sack that is why you probably lost the one that you removed the shell from.
I used to breed Chinese(Button Quail) and Japanese and I found this was the best method.
Another tip is make sure if you remove the shell give the chick a dip of warm water.
