ara one or two?
I am one year old 15 b & g macaw who comes from a home with 3 other macaws, he was with his whole life. I its cage, 2 T-stands and 2 games in gyms all over the house, and soon a flightpen outside. It comes with me throughout the house, but since I can not always be holding it, he will sit on one of his stands. He has many toys but did not play with them instead, he holds his leg and asks "MAAA. This is not really embarrassing, it's a good guy (mostly), but I am beginning to wonder if a friend would be good for him. So my question is, is to have 2 parrots a bad idea? Do I get another macaw or something different? male or female? b & g or Greenwing? Or maybe now it is only the best.
I can only make another macaw if you really want another macaw. Bird's can easily adapt to being the only bird in the house, and some, in fact, if the only bird for a certain period of time did not intend on sharing. Until there's a lot of time with you, and a lot of stimulation (Which he seems perfectly happy) so I do not think he needs another macaw. If you really want another macaw and the time then maybe that would work out. But also understand that there is no guarantee that they agree. It may just learn to play with his toys. When you have him on playstand jingle bells, and things are moving to get interested. instead of random processes (such as banana chips or almonds) Random toys or around the playstand encourage foraging outside the cage. Once a parrot learns to play with toys (just like children they need to learn to know themselves, sometimes even out of the cage, they can not be with us all the time) they will not stand by and wait you back. Instead, they have fun and get excercise. But if you're really considering another macaw, because you really want to be a Make sure you go trhough the right precautions with an introduction and quarantine slwo. But in my opinion, I do not think it's necessary. Having 2 is not a bad idea, but it can become very hard and expensive (more than they can not even agree) and parrots can live a happy life with their only human herd.
