given bird cage, thought it was wrought iron, removed rust, silver in color, can i test for what metal it is?
I think it is an antique parrot cage, trying to restore, want to use the correct products but dont know how to tell what kind of metal it is
if the rust didn't stain it and just came off my guess is stainless steel! look for a stamp or mark on the cage maybe on the bottom it may tell you what its made of! i don't know how to test metals without chemicals (did it in school!)
you may have a 'fake' antique, people put new things in water to make them rust and look old, then sell them as antiques! take it to an antique shop and see what they make of it!
