How can you make small animals like Guinea pigs, hamsters etc. chew their wooden sticks?
My Guinea pig is old not mince his wooden sticks, I bought a lot of different kinds. His teeth have grown very long term, she prolbem jaw prolbem eyes, had surgery and was finally put to sleep, she was starving. Now I have a dwarf hamster, she does not mince hers either. It's really frustrating.
First, make sure they are not chewing on cages. It can be quite annoying and can make uneven teeth, causing more problems. I find dog biscuits to help grind their teeth. You can get free Petsmart at checkout. If you do not have this option, you can use a toilet paper roll and other things inside with food. Seal sides inwards by pressing the paper. They have to chew through the cardboard to get to food. This is not as effective dog biscuits as well. If you choose to use wooden blocks, you can cover the timber with yogurt. It can be sticky, so I'm not too recommend it. For my hamster, I give him kaytee bars, so it must chew and gnaw on the bar to get food. http://www.kaytee.com/products/mammals/?pid=00481&aid=all&pcid=2 They are fairly cheap and you can even have them at Target. Hope this helps!
