How do I get my hamster out of the spot he stays in 24/7?
My hamster has a green ball-type thing at the top of his cage. He stays there all the time. He will bring a whole bunch of bedding and a whole bunch of food into his green ball and stay there. He sleeps and eats in there, so it's kinda hard for me to pet him and play with him because the only time he comes into his actual cage it's just to get water! Please help in any possible way that you can. Thank you!
Hamsters are funny little critters. They usually pick a good ''nest'' and make it home, moving bedding and food and chews and everything into their nest. Hammies are also nocturnal and he is probably coming out at night and running around, but staying in his nest all day. This is natural behavior, and will be hard to change. What you can do is next time you clean the cage, remove the ball and provide a different nest like a little igloo hide or something that he can nest in that is easily movable so you can play with him when you want to. Playing with him a lot during the day will also help to switch him over to a diurnal (day) schedule, so that he is active during the day and sleeps at night.
