what are the best kind of toys and cages and cage accessories for a hedgehog?
i really want to get one, and i need to know how to care for it and what to get it!
Cage should be solid bottomed, with wire sides. Don't use an aquarium as a cage, they have poor ventilation. If the cage has more than one level, the ramp and second floor should all have solid floors, and both the ramp and higher floor should be completely enclosed. Hedgehogs are bad at judging distance and can be seriously injured by falls of a couple inches. The cage should also have a floor space of at least three square feet. You should have food and water bowls, preferably ceramic because they're harder to tip, for the hedgie. They should be relatively shallow, only a couple of inches high at most. You should find suitable dishes at most pet stores.
You also need a hiding spot, which can be anything from a shoe box with a hole cut in it, to a large plastic igloo from a pet store.
The last thing the cage should have is a wheel. The wheel should be 12" in diameter with a solid bottom. Some good wheels to look for are Comfort Wheels and Flying Sauces, which can both be found in pet stores for about $25, or a Cake Walk Supreme, which you can find here: http://www.hedgehogwheel.com/ . It's more expensive, but it's much easier to clean and lasts longer.

Most books on them are pretty outdated and have incorrect, and even dangerous, information. Make sure you do all of your research before getting a hedgehog and know what to expect. =)
